The Hotel

Location, location, location they say. If that's true, then it doesn't get much better than voco Edinburgh - Royal Terrace, set within the pulsating heart of Scotland's iconic capital and moments from the Royal Mile, Edinburgh Castle, and the city’s bustling shopping and dining districts.

Set within a beautifully refurbished building, voco Edinburgh features 150 thoughtfully designed rooms, blending contemporary elegance with homely comfort. Guests can enjoy plush bedding, rainfall showers, smart technology, and eco-friendly amenities, all designed with relaxation and sustainability in mind.

The hotel's amenities include the Terrace Restaurant and Garden, serving locally inspired cuisine and handcrafted cocktails, flexible meeting spaces for business or events, and a state-of-the-art fitness centre.

 

The Technology

voco Edinburgh enlisted Airwave to modernize and enhance the property's guest room entertainment system. The primary objectives included:

- Implementing a branded, user-friendly interface.

- Integrating a content-sharing / Chromecast solution.

- Adding new displays to the existing TV portfolio (ensuring the new displays can run via DOCSIS)

- Refreshing and improving the existing channel line-up.

 Airwave ticked the first box via the implementation of a Uniguest Hub guest room entertainment platform. Uniguest Hub provides a fully customisable interface and a series of additional features designed to personalise the guest's interaction with the hotel TV.

This included a hospitality Chromecast service (box number two, ticked!), allowing guests to cast content from a smart device to the in-room TV. 

 Airwave flat-to-wall mounted 43-inch Samsung AU8000 hospitality displays, these were integrated with Arris DOCSIS modems, allowing the hotel to run high-speed internet through the property's existing coaxial infrastructure.

DOCSIS is an excellent solution for hotels seeking to deliver fast, reliable internet using existing coaxial cable infrastructure, especially in cases where installing a CAT5 or CAT6 Ethernet network is not feasible."

 Wrapping up the project, Airwave reconfigured the hotel's TV headend, enhancing and expanding the existing lineup of Freeview channels.
