The Hotel

INNSiDE by Meliá Manchester is a 10-floor lifestyle hotel positioned in the heart of the city's vibrant First Street cultural district. More than a place to stay, it's a property designed for bleisure travel—where professional productivity meets social exploration.

The four-star property offers 208 contemporary guestrooms and suites, including the brand’s signature Big Idea creative meeting spaces and a state-of-the-art wellness suite with Finnish sauna and steam room.

Other amenities include an outdoor terrace, 24-hour gym, and Gino D'Acampo's 360 Sky Bar.

The Technology

The technology experience at INNSiDE Manchester is built around choice, reducing friction, and supporting an intuitive guest journey—rather than showcasing technology for the sake of it.

Working in collaboration with the INNSiDE team, Airwave delivered an IPTV platform that distributes live TV and hotel content over the property's data network. This creates a consistent, high-quality experience in every room while simplifying future upgrades and changes.

Each guestroom was equipped with 43 or 50-inch LG UM662H Series hospitality TVs, integrated into Uniguest Hub's centrally managed system. Hub allows content, branding, and information to be updated remotely, ensuring the on-screen experience stays aligned with the INNSiDE brand—current, local, and uncluttered.

To reflect modern viewing habits, the platform includes built-in casting capability, allowing guests to stream their own content securely from personal devices to the TV. The benefit is choice, immediacy, and familiarity. Guests watch what they want, when they want, how they want – just like at home.

Other features offered as part of the Hub interface include a dynamic weather feed, electronic programme guide, digital restaurant menus (with scannable QR codes), and various information pages.

Having served over 100 years as a public library, the Limehouse library building saw a reinvention in 2022, opening as a multifunctional venue, hosting a boutique hotel, library and school of the culinary arts.

Situated just north of the river Thames in London's Limehouse district,  the Limehouse Library Hotel's 75 rooms have each been named after a notable figure from history - famous personalities from the worlds of politics and the arts, of literature, science and philosophy, have inspired every detail in the room, from bed to bathroom.

If we're talking famous names from the past, it would be remiss to not mention John Logie Baird, who of course demonstrated the world's first live working television system.

The Technology

TV technology has moved on a little since Baird's big moment on a winter's day in 1926, and Airwave was glad to demonstrate accordingly, via the installation of a cutting edge TV system in the freshly refurbished property.

The implementation of an IPTV headend and reception infrastructure kicked off proceedings, enabling the hotel to curate a line-up of 24 international channels and Freeview.

These were proudly broadcast on LG hospitality TVs, with a mixture of 24, 32 and 43-inch LT661H and US662H Series TVs wall-mounted in the guestrooms. 

Each room at the Limehouse is very different, so the flexibility of LG's hospitality TV portfolio  - allowing us to install 24-inch TVs in the smaller rooms - was the obvious choice for the hotel.

Airwave embedded an Otrum Mirage interactive information system on each TV, providing guests with a series of information pages and additional functionalities.

Limehouse chose to use Mirage's slideshow feature, enabling a number of images to scroll on a carousel basis - the perfect feature to show off some of the characters on which the rooms are based - notable examples including Charles Darwin, Leo Tolstoy and Charles Dickens.

Airtime's cloud-based movie streaming app was also implemented, and housed via a "MOVIES" button on the user interface, this sits next to a "CONNECT YOUR DEVICE" button, enabling guests to use a smart device to cast content to the TV, courtesy of hospitality certified Google Chromecast.

Lockeliving provide design-led apartments that combine the convenience of a hotel, with the freedom of the home environment.

With 12 locations, situated across the UK, Ireland and Germany, Locke's lifestyle brand is expanding quickly, in line with the growing lifestyle and shared space sector.

The Property

Located a few minutes from Cambridge's historic centre, Turing Locke offers 180 design-led apartments, set around a central courtyard.

We create spaces where you can be you – work-you, friends-you, party-you, intrepid-you – all in one place. Instead of just another guest in another nice hotel.

Locke Living

True to form, Turing Locke's facilities include a plenitude of social spaces - a restaurant, bar, coffee shop, co-working space, courtyard, rooftop terrace and workout studio, all providing an experience that's most definitely not just 'hotel.'

Hotel, aparthotel, living space...all different types of property with different visions but of course, one common denominator - a requirement for a top drawer guest entertainment system.

The Technology

As with any environment with lots going on, an interactive information system helps pull things together, providing a series of information pages to augment the guest's stay - all neatly embedded in the hotel TV display.

 

Airwave recommended Otrum's cloud-based Mirage information system. Mirage provides a powerful SaaS solution, enabling unparalleled options for the customisation, branding and personalisation of the guest-room TV's interface.

Otrum Mirage isn't a one-trick pony, it also provides a handy platform for a number of other features, including a tailored list of channels, SMART APPS, catch-up TV services and hospitality certified Google Chromecast - allowing guests to cast content from their portable device, to the in-room TV.

Fronting the system, Airwave wall-mounted 180 x 43 & 55-inch Samsung ET690 Series hospitality TVs, using ultra-slim wall brackets to keep the TVs as flush to the wall as possible.

And providing a backbone to all the project's technology, Airwave installed an IPTV headend and reception infrastructure - which also underpinned the TV entertainment system at Hyatt Centric Cambridge - who happen to share a building with Turing, and a relationship with Airwave!

The Hyatt Hotels Corporation's portfolio includes more than 1,150 boutique or full-service hotels, in 70 countries across six continents. Traditionally catering for the premium and business markets, Hyatt categorises its sub-brands under three headings: the timeless portfolio, independent collections, and the boundless portfolio - to which Hyatt Centric belongs.

Hyatt Centric operate boutique properties in prime locations, with a strong emphasis on communal spaces and cutting-edge technology.

Predominantly located in the United States, Centric currently own 41 properties and hold aggressive expansion plans.

The Hotel

Hyatt Centric Cambridge is the first UK-based Centric hotel, offering a modern, amenity-rich experience in the thriving Eddington university district, just two miles from Cambridge's historic centre.

Set around a central courtyard, the hotel's 150 guestrooms boast understated grandeur, with a splash of art deco and of course, a modern TV entertainment system.

The Technology

As with most installations, work began in the hotel comms room and on the roof, with various infrastructure implemented to underpin the project, including rooftop antennae and an IPTV headend. 

On this occasion, the network infrastructure was designed to also support the TV network within Turing Locke, a new lifestyle aparthotel (also supported by Airwave, for more details, watch this space!) in the same building.

Samsung ET690 Series TVs were chosen for the guestrooms, providing smart functionality, modern aesthetics and a low-footprint design in the Centric's trendy bedrooms Sticking with the low-footprint theme, each TV was wall-mounted on BTech ultra-slim brackets.

Commercially certified Google Chromecast was implemented on each TV, allowing guests to cast content from a portable device to the room's big screen.

 

The guestroom TV's interface is  designed with simpicity in mind, offering guests a quick and easy path to the TV channels, or Chromecast.

Guests that opt for Chromecast are presented with clear instructions and a QR code, enabling 'a point and click' connection to the service via a smart device's camera.

Marriott International's Moxy, operates uber stylish, affordable hotels across North America, Europe and Asia Pacific. 

Moxy offers a modern, design-led experience, targeting millennial travellers with a fresh attitude, trendy communal spaces and cutting-edge technology.

Having made its debut in Milan in the autumn of 2014, Moxy has grown aggressively, now operating 62 hotels with a further 127 properties in the pipeline.

The Hotel

Occupying the site of a former hat factory, Moxy Manchester City provides a heady experience for guests, in the centre of Manchester's trendy Spinningfields district.

The hotel's 146 bedrooms (situated over 8 floors) are cleverly designed; small but productive, incorporating plush platform beds, comfy lounge chairs and a modern workspace. And of course, in accordance with the Moxy ethos, each bedroom offers modern tech - fast Wi-Fi, motion-activated LED guidelights and a state of the art TV entertainment system....

  

The Technology 

Airwave initiated the project via the implementation of reception equipment and an IPTV headend. This supported technology installed into both the guestroom, and communal environment. 

Guestroom tech

Moxy chose Samsung ET690U Series hospitality TVs, requesting the wall-mounting of each display, to maintain the property's space conscious aesthetic.

An Otrum Enterprise interactive information system was then deployed, with features including:

- Hotel information (restaurant opening times etc)

- An electronic programme guide

- An 'Internet TV' button, featuring YouTube and movie streaming app, Airtime.

- Internet radio services, including radio channel collections from Germany, France, Italy, Spain and Norway.

- Local weather conditions

A hospitality certified Google Chromecast service was also deployed on the TV, offering content casting from 1000+ video and audio apps.

Communal space tech

Incorporating Otrum digital signage software as a platform, Airwave installed a 2 x 2 video wall display, using Philips X Line BDL3005 displays; this can be operated via Barco Clickshare technology and is used to play terrestrial TV, premium channels (such as Sky and BT sport), or branded Moxy content. 

2 x 50-inch Samsung ET690U Series TVs were also mounted in the work-space/meeting rooms, also operable via Barco Clickshare.

At this time, we would recommend that guests do not use YouTube.

Part of the ‘easy’ family of brands, easyHotel owns and franchises an estate of 41 hotels in 11 countries across the world. 

Operating in the super budget hotel segment, easyhotel offer competitively priced accommodation in city locations.

Airwave is honoured to partner with easyHotel, providing value-driven hotel TV systems to the brand’s guestrooms.

The Project

The easyHotel guestroom remit consists of RF infrastructure deployment, feeding 32-inch wall-mounted hotel displays and a RF based information system.  A wall-mounted large format display is also wall-mounted in each hotel’s reception area.

Having recently implemented this remit into easyHotels in Birmingham and Manchester, Airwave was delighted to be awarded further projects in Cardiff, Oxford and London Shoreditch.

Over the three properties, Airwave wall-mounted over 300 32HFL4014 PrimeSuite Philips TVs, all featuring a Philips CMND IPTV platform with homepage and additional information pages.

The system mirrors easyHotel’s ethos – simple, clean and value-driven, and provides guests with a modern, intuitive TV system.

The Hampton hotel brand operates moderately priced, upper midscale hotels with limited food and beverage facilities, boasting a global coverage of 270,000 rooms in 2,700 hotels , across 31 countries and territories.  

The Hotel

Located a short stroll from the famous Canterbury Cathedral, Hampton by Hilton Canterbury, offers modern, spacious rooms amidst the shops and cafes of Kent's most visited city.

The newly renovated hotel, which sits at the heart of an extensive redevelopment project, incorporates two listed buildings and retains the property's historic façade.

With 129 guest-rooms, a state-of-the-art business centre and gym facilities, Hampton by Hilton's Canterbury property attracts a mixture of business and leisure tourists, both of whom benefit from modern tech, including complimentary wifi and 4G mobile phone boosters

The Technology

With modern tech also required in the guest-rooms, Airwave was approached to design and deploy a TV entertainment system.

The project commenced with the installation of TV reception equipment, including dishes, an aerial and a RF headend and network.

Next step, the wall-mounting of Samsung 55-inch ET690 Series hospitality TVs, each embedded with a Samsung REACH information system. On this occasion, the hotel chose a simple menu system, consisting of a welcome screen, including direct access to TV channels, cloud-based video on demand APP, Airtime, the weather, and six information pages. Naturally, Samsung REACH's software allows for future customisation/upgrades, should the hotel wish to add or change information.

Completing the installation, Airwave deployed a SKY TV service in the hotel's bar area, predominantly used for premium sports events, such as Premiership football, test cricket and Formula One. 

Part-owned by the Forestry Commission and set exclusively within woodland, Forest Holidays own over 600 cabins across 11 stunning UK locations.

Indeed, if there's a forest in a beautiful UK location, chances are that Forest Holidays run a site there; idyllic settings such as Ardgarten Argyll in Scotland, Bedgellert in Snowdonia and the iconic Sherwood Forest, provide lucky guests with a luxurious retreat, dramatic woodland views and a real connection with nature.

The Site

Set in the midst of the Cheshire Plain, the  Delamere Forest site sits in the largest woodland in England, boasting 972 hectares of wild forest, and featuring broadleaf and evergreen trees, grassy wetlands and an enormous  sandstone ridge.

Forest Holiday's latest development, opening in April 2021, marks the 11th chapter in Airwave and Forest Holidays' partnership.

The Technology

Forest Holidays opted for a full service package, including supply, installation, maintenance and ongoing support services. In keeping with all 2020 and 2021 field projects, Airwave supplied and installed all technology and services in strict accordance with COVID-19 safety protocols, a few weeks ahead of Delamere's April launch.

As with all other Forest sites, Otrum Enterprise was chosen to deliver the in-cabin entertainment experience, and on this occasion, Airwave's design team was tasked to create a new user interface, in line with Forest's new branding.

Otrum's interactive information interface features a number of information pages (including that all-important hot tub safety video), a hospitality certified Chromecast service, Sky HD entertainment, VOD movie streaming APP, Airtime, a full list of radio channels and a number of bi-directional communication services (enabling communication between guests and staff). 

Due to the nature of Delamere's large, sprawling site, the provision of guest maintenance reporting is a particularly useful tool, offering guests a quick and easy vehicle for the reporting of issues within the cabin. 

Other operational efficiencies include the ability to order food and groceries, via an embedded QR code on the in-room TV. The guest simply "points and clicks" at the code with a smart device, and can order from a list of goodies - useful holiday paraphernalia such as disposable BBQs, batteries, card games and an extensive list of groceries - including fresh & frozen, goods, doggy treats and of course, alcohol!

Otrum's IPTV service was implemented on Samsung's latest Tizen hospitality TV platform, and as part of a complete solution, Airwave also implemented a guest Wi-Fi portal, offering a choice of free or super-fast premium Wi-Fi access across each cabin.

If 2021 is the year of the staycation, we can think of few better UK locations to spend our time and money...

In August 1992, Ingleside House was granted Grade 2 listed status, a reflection on its 300-year existence and multiple guises - including a private residence, offices for the WW2 effort and more recently, a community centre and private school.

In recent years, the Ingleside site has been developed and expanded to include the nationally acclaimed Barn Theatre and the award winning restaurant – Téatro.

Ingleside's new face, a boutique hotel, is due to open in May 2021 and promises to "offer a stay like no other" combining exuberant design and flawless attention to detail.

The Project

With 11 distinctly designed rooms, the Ingleside very much operates in the boutique arena, and approached Airwave to design and implement a guest-room entertainment system in keeping with the size and nature of the hotel.

After implementing various backend infrastructure, including aerial equipment and an IPTV headend (offering access to a full Freeview line-up of TV channels) Airwave recommended GuestConnect, powered by PPDS.

This web-based service can be activated by a QR code, allowing the guest to operate the in-roomTV with a portable device (a valuable feature in today's covid-19 society). The user interface can be individually branded with images, logos and videos and includes a series of embedded APPS - including heavyweights such as Netflix, BBC iPlayer and Youtube.

GuestConnect is the perfect solution for boutique properties, looking for a cost-efficient, but powerful solution, that doesn't require significant technology infrastructure and hardware.

Philips' new technology can be used by multiple guests, as long as they're checked in to the same room, and requires no APP download or form-filling.

GuestConnect was embedded on Philips 43-inch HFL5114 hospitality TV displays, powered by Android.

The Sleeperz brand offers stylish lifestyle hotels in city centre locations, focussing on bold, contemporary interiors and high-end fixtures & fittings - and great value, friendly hospitality.

The award-winning chain features hotels in Newcastle, Edinburgh, Dundee and the newly extended Cardiff.

As with all Sleeperz hotels, the hotel is located within close proximity to the city's railway station, on this occasion, a one minute walk to Cardiff Central, right in the heart of the city.

The Project

Having previously worked with Sleeperz in the Dundee location, Airwave was delighted to once again, design and implement a guest-room entertainment system into Sleeperz Cardiff.

Located slap, bang in the middle of Wales' capital city, there's naturally lots of things for guests to do. With this in mind, the implementation of a user-friendly interactive information system was a priority.

With this firmly in mind, Airwave implemented an Otrum CTRL information system with a number of interactive pages, including: radio, hotel services, menu & wine list (with a QR code for browsing on a portable device), things to do, Google Chromecast and VOD movie streaming APP, Airtime.

(Hospitality certified) Chromecast allows guests to cast content from a portable device to the in-room TV, opening up a smorgasbord of movie & programming content, such as Netflix, Amazon Prime and BBC iPlayer.

For those that aren't technically savvy, or simply fancy an early-release blockbuster movie, Airtime offers guests the classic video on demand hotel room movie experience.

There'll not be much sleeping at Sleeperz with a guest-room entertainment of this calibre...

The Four Points by Sheraton London Gatwick Airport, is the first of the Four Points Sheraton brand to touch down in the UK.

Located just two miles from Gatwick Airport, the newly refurbished site boasts onsite parking, a gastro pub, bar and gym facilities.

Each air conditioned room features a comfortable bed, rainfall shower and a specially designed workspace - perfect for business travellers.

The Project

"Airport hotels typically attract one-night-stay guests" said Head of Hospitality Sales, Wayne Bowring "who don't have much in the way of local attractions to visit! With this in mind, a top quality TV entertainment system is a real priority."

Airwave commenced proceedings with the implementation of an IPTV headend and broadcast signal equipment. 104 x Samsung 55ET690U Series SMART hospitality TVs were then wall-mounted on low profile BTech BT8421B brackets.

Otrum's Enterprise Cloud information system was implemented on each TV, featuring a home page and a number of additional pages, including: channel guide, radio, hotel information, Internet TV, bluetooth audio share and a Chromecast interface.

The Chromecast interface allows the guest to use a smart device to cast content (such as Netflix, BBC iPlayer, Amazon Prime etc) onto the guest-room TV.

Recognising that not every guest has access to a smart device, Airwave implemented the cloud-based movie app, Airtime, on each TV. Airtime offers on-demand multi-language blockbuster movie & programming content - a perfect option for that pre-holiday treat!

Situated in the heart of the Cotswolds, Farncombe Estate is unique in the UK hospitality industry - a wholly integrated countryside estate, featuring three boutique hotels: Dormy House Hotel & Spa, Foxhill Manor, and the Fish Hotel.

Setting itself the ambition to the the "most memorable hill in the world," Farncombe Estate is at the forefront of prestige hospitality, and boasts a multitude of hospitality awards (including Country House Hotel of the Year and overall Hotel of the Year in the Small Luxury Hotels of the World (SLH) Annual Awards).

The Project

The Farncombe Estate delivers a premium lifestyle experience, encouraging guests to make use of the fabulous facilities on offer, as such, guests tend to spend less time in the bedrooms than might be typical. However, also part of the Farncombe experience is 'Hygge,' the Scandinavian term for warmth, cosiness and enjoyment of the simple pleasures in life.

And few things in life beat the cosiness of a sofa and your favourite TV show - so with this in mind, Farncombe approached Airwave to upgrade its TV entertainment system.

 "As you might expect, Farncombe's portfolio of TVs is modern and capable" said Head of National Accounts, Adam Jones "so there was no real need to upgrade the television hardware."

Essentially, the upgrade of the system needed to work with the current TV estate, notably featuring a number of different TV brands and models.

Airwave worked with the Farncombe IT team, to configure the television infrastructure, enabling the implementation of hospitality certified Google Chromecast to sit across the Estate's three hotels and the mix of 136 television screens (with further upgrade plans ongoing).

Chromecast enables guests to access their own content, such as Netflix, BBC iPlayer and YouTube, and cast this content from their portable device onto the TV - essentially providing (as good as) an infinite supply of material, all available on the in-room display. Access to the service is provided by an intuitive, branded interface, allowing the guest to quickly and easily to pair their device to the TV.

“Many European luxury hotels, particularly those in heritage buildings, have a restricted number of electrical sockets,” said Peta Austin, Airwave Business Development Manager. “For housekeepers it’s a nightmare because often guests move furniture in search of an outlet to plug in a smartphone or tablet. Most guests now have two or more smart devices that need charging, putting pressure on available sockets in a room, and these devices are likely to be loaded with favorite music, podcasts or films. Guests really appreciate attention to detail in meeting their needs. The KS Clock™ will charge multiple devices simultaneously with the necessary cables attached, play guests’ preferred music through the Kube’s superior audio speaker, and wake them when the alarm is programmed.
