Annual Charity Challenge - The South Downs Marathon
27 August 2019 10:19
On Friday 23rd August, 22 volunteers from Airwave and sister company SCCI Alphatrack completed the South Downs Marathon, a 30 mile walk across the (very) hilly South Downs, from Eastbourne to Brighton.
Joined by partners Samsung, LG, Philips, Sky and Wifirst, the team of intrepid volunteers set off from a sunny Eastbourne Pier at 7.15AM.
"Sunny" being a bit of a theme in the annual Airwave charity event; last year, we encountered record temperatures as we completed the Three Peaks Challenge (Ben Nevis, Snowdon, Scafell Pike). This year, the temperature was more respectable but still in the high twenties and, unusually for the South Downs, no wind to take the edge off.
Still, despite an eclectic mix of sore feet, hips, achilles heels, hamstrings, calfs. shoulders and an alarming case of sunburn, all 22 members of the team made it to Brighton - an incredible achievement!
A great day was had by all and of course, never too far from anybody's mind was the reason we were doing this in the first place:
The Chestnut Tree House children's hospice in Arundel, West Sussex provides care for over 300 children and young adults with progressive life-shortening conditions. Airwave is honoured too support this wonderful cause. We'd love you to spare a few pennies to help:
