700MHZ clearance - Important information

Important information affecting our customers

All hotel TV systems will be affected by the 700MHZ clearance project.

What is 700MHz clearance?

In November 2014 Ofcom announced its decision to reallocate some of the airwaves used by Freeview terrestrial television to mobile services, preparing for a predicted increase in demand for mobile data. As a result, some Freeview channels will be moved to new frequencies - this process is known as 700MHz clearance.

When is it happening?

It will depend on your local transmitter. Digital UK provide a postcode checker that lists transmitter locations alongside the date of the proposed changes, click here for more details.

How will the clearance affect my hotel / hospital / premises?

Most domestic Freeview viewers will simply need to retune their TV equipment (although, Ofcom has stated that between 140,000 - 270,000 homes may also need to replace / realign their aerial to continue receiving all available channels).

However, the nature of many hotel/hospital network infrastructures may require further work to be completed.  This may take the form of a headend replacement/retune, the restructuring of a tailored channel listing or more complicated infrastructure work.
