First-class delivery at Sheraton Heathrow Hotel

The challenge

Airwave was chosen as technology provider in the Sheraton Heathrow’s refurbishment programme and were tasked to implement a seamless phasing of screens and equipment over a nine-month period.

Firmly established as one of the most convenient hotels at the UK’s busiest airport, the 426 room Sheraton Heathrow is just minutes from all five terminals.  With 20 modern meeting rooms, many clustered around a natural daylight atrium, the hotel is also a hub for conference excellence.

Airwave’s challenge involved a phased upgrade of the hotel’s in-room TVs, conference room AV equipment and WiFi services – whilst the hotel remained open and running existing systems and services.

The challenge in hand excited Head of Projects, Morne De Jager: “It was a tough task but our design and project team’s experience in complicated installs enabled us to seamlessly phase the technology. It was a very rewarding project and we’re delighted it went so well”.

 The Solution

Airwave installed and commissioned a broad range of integrated systems including Samsung Smart Interactive TVs, Samsung internal and external signage screens and Samsung e-board interactive screens. The Sheraton also required a much quicker and more reliable WiFi network.

40”, 48” and 55” FHD Samsung TVs incorporating Samsung’s LYNK SINC content management system were installed in the hotel’s bedrooms.  The Samsung system enabled Airwave’s graphics and content creation team to bespoke a system that not only looked good, but was able to deliver guest messages and information to the screen in each room.

Modernisation of the conference rooms included the install of Samsung’s innovative 72" and 82” touchscreen technology alongside 10 inch smart wayfinder signage screens.

 WiFi

“The importance of a robust, fast and secure WiFi system cannot be over-stated” said Airwave Sales Director, Paul Chambers, “with no margin for error, we implemented a separate project team to ensure a world-class system was delivered”.

To ensure the hotel was provided with the highest performing WIFI system, Airwave installed a solution built on Ruckus hardware and software.  Catering for over 260 access points, the system ensures maximum connectivity, reliability and security for both hotel and guests. To complement the Ruckus package, Airwave also provided its own cloud-based captive portal to fully configure bandwidth, tiered services, usage logs and multiple device management.

Coupled with complete remote control and Airwave’s 24/7 support line, The Sheraton Heathrow now boasts a world class Wi-Fi service.
